FOUNDATION PRIZE PATROL AWARDS GRANTS
History was made
on May 12th, 2006 as the newly incorporated Bandera ISD
Education Foundation awarded their first round of Educator
Initiative Program grants to fund three exciting learning projects.
The Educator Initiative Program was designed to encourage,
facilitate, recognize, and reward innovative and creative
instructional approaches which accomplish program objectives and
improve student performance. The winning teachers received a
surprise visit at their schools from the Education Foundation’s
“Prize Patrol”. Outfitted with clanging bells, signs, balloons, and
over-sized checks; Foundation Officers and Board Members made a
grand and boisterous entrance at each campus they visited.
DeeDee Stewart
from Bandera Middle School, was awarded a grant of $1,402 to fund
the “Picture This” project. Librarians Tammie Royal from
Alkek Elementary and Patsy Small from Bandera High School,
will share a grant of $1,000 to fund a visiting author program.
Michelle Barnet from Bandera High School was awarded a grant of
$434 to fund “Laboratory Directed Biology”.
“We wanted to get
the Foundation’s presence known to our teachers as soon as we could”
explained Dr. Barbara Skipper, chair of the Foundation’s Grant
Committee. “This is just the start of many positive events the
Foundation has planned to help the teachers and students at Bandera
ISD schools”.
The Bandera ISD
Education Foundation is a volunteer, non-profit corporation, which
solicits, manages, and disburses contributions to enrich and enhance
educational opportunities for staff and students in Bandera ISD that
fall outside the scope of the district’s normal operating budget.
